Taking Possession

March 06, 2018: SOAP #3015: Deuteronomy 3-4; Psalm 36; Mark 13

Scripture:  Deuteronomy (NIV) 4:1 Hear now, O Israel, the decrees and laws I am about to teach you. Follow them so that you may live and may go in and take possession of the land that the LORD, the God of your fathers, is giving you. 2 Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it but keep the commands of the LORD your God that I give you.

Observation:  God gave them the land, but they had to take possession of it.  For Israel to take possession, they had to obey and trust.   In each step of taking possession of what God had given them, God provided the plan, the strength, and the miracles needed.  They had to step out in faith, they had to do the fighting, but God made sure they were successful.  Only when they disobeyed were they defeated.

Application:   Israel’s God is my God.  I too will need trust and obedience to take possession of what He gives me!   And He can still be counted on to ensure that faithful obedience ends in victory!

Prayer:    Heavenly Father, as Israel counted on you, so I must count on you.  As you proved yourself faithful to Israel, so you prove yourself faithful to me.  Amen
