Boasting in the Cross

March 15, 2018: SOAP #3024: Deuteronomy 28-29; Galatians 6

Scripture:  Galatians (NIV) 6:14 May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

Observation:    What does “boast” (KJV: “glory”) mean?   What does it mean to “boast?”  How does it sound?  What words are used?

I do not have a knowledge of Greek, so my study of the word is limited to what I read in the dictionaries.  But I do have a great advantage over all the dictionaries.  I have a personal relationship with the author of the Word!  It is a very close relationship; He lives in me!   He reveals truth to me.

Application:   But I want more than an understanding of the word: I want to know how it applies to Leon.  How can Leon boast in the cross of Jesus?  I must rely on the Holy Spirit to bring understanding to my heart.

When people boast, they speak proudly, with confidence, not caring who overhears their words.  They take joy in boasting.

The cruel Old Rugged Cross is where my Holy and Loving Creator died as the payment for my sins!  May I take joy in my boasting.  Most of all, may He take joy in my boasting.

Prayer:    Holy Spirit, teach me what it means to boast in the cross of Jesus.  Help me to talk and live as though the cross of Jesus is the most important event in my life because it is!    Amen
