Changed and Empowered

March 17, 2018: SOAP #3026: Deuteronomy 32-34; 1Corinthians 2

Scripture:  1Corinthians (NIV) 2:1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. 4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

Observation:    In the final verses of Acts 17 we read of Paul’s very logical presentation of God in Athens.  A few followed him to learn more.  In Acts 18:1 we find Paul leaving Athens and going to Corinth, the city to which the above verses were later written.

Paul came to realize that peoples’ lives would not be changed by an eloquent message, but by experiencing the power of God’s Spirit.

Application:   The world does not need to hear a great sermon as much as it needs to see a great sermon—that of lives changed by the power of God!

Prayer:   Holy Spirit, fill me and use me.  Flow through me in ministry to those around me for the glory of Jesus.  Let people see in me a life changed and empowered by the your presence.  Amen
