Placing it in God’s hands!

April 21, 2018: SOAP #3061: 1Sam 24; Ps 57, 58; 1Chronicles 8; Matthew 8

Scripture:  1Samuel (NIV) 24:11 See, my father, look at this piece of your robe in my hand! I cut off the corner of your robe but did not kill you. Now understand and recognize that I am not guilty of wrongdoing or rebellion. I have not wronged you, but you are hunting me down to take my life. 12 May the LORD judge between you and me. And may the LORD avenge the wrongs you have done to me, but my hand will not touch you.

Observation:    Though King Saul was very much against David, wanting to kill him, David refused to strike back.  As far as David was concerned, King Saul was God’s problem.  He was the anointed king of Israel.

Application:   How I respond to the authority figures God has placed over me is very important.  Since all authority comes from God, how I respect the authority God has placed in my life really shows my respect for God.  And since most of God’s authority over me is expressed through imperfect men, I can expect to have trouble.  Running away from the place God has placed me, means that I will be tested again and tempted to run.  I need to learn from David how to respect and respond to authority that is bent on doing me harm.

Prayer:    Holy Spirit, teach me how to properly respect and respond to authority, even that which does not treat me fairly or properly.  Turn what is meant for evil to good.  Amen
