What if God had our values?

April 22, 2018: SOAP #3062: 1Samuel 25,26; Psalm 63; Matthew 9

Scripture:  1Samuel (NIV) 26:23 [David speaking to King Saul] The LORD rewards every man for his righteousness and faithfulness. The LORD gave you into my hands today, but I would not lay a hand on the LORD’s anointed.
24 As surely as I valued your life today, so may the LORD value my life and deliver me from all trouble.”
25 Then Saul said to David, “May you be blessed, my son David; you will do great things and surely triumph.” So David went on his way, and Saul returned home.

Observation:  David valued King Saul’s life even though King Saul was on a mission to kill David.  David had been given an opportunity to kill Saul, but he refused to take it.  Saul had been anointed by God to be the king.  David refused to kill him.  David wanted God to value his (David’s) life the same way David had valued Saul’s life.

Application:   Life comes from God.  Human life starts in the womb.  As a nation we have not valued the lives of millions of unborn children. (60 million since 1973)   They were present at no choice of their own and had no intention of harming us. If trouble comes, the big questions in my mind, “How will God value our lives?”

Prayer:    Heavenly Father, as David prayed, may you value my life and deliver me from all trouble.  Amen
