July 14, 2019: SOAP #3510: Isaiah 19-21; Hebrews 11
Scripture: Hebrews (NIV) 11:8 By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.
Observation: Abraham did not know where he was going. But he did know some things. In verse 10 Abraham knew that God was the architect and builder of a heavenly city. In verse 11 Abraham knew that God was faithful! In verses 17 and 18 Abraham knew what God had told him. In verse 19 Abraham knew that God could raise the dead.
When we consider what Abraham knew, it is not so amazing that Abraham followed God to an unknown destination. It would have been amazing if he had not followed God!!!
Application: In some ways, I am like Abraham. I know too much about God not to follow Him! It would be illogical not to follow God! What I already know about God assures me that following God is the right thing to do, even when He does not tell me where I am going.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, I know it is a faith walk when I follow your leading, but it takes much more faith to believe that I know better than you and that I will be able to face the unknown. Today, and for always, I trust you! Amen
