Rejoice with me!

October 02, 2019: SOAP #3590:  Zechariah 13-14; Psalm 147; Luke 15

Scripture:  Luke (NIV) 15:4 “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’

8 “Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Does she not light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? 9 And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’

Observation:   Joy is made for sharing!   When something good happens to us, we want to share it.  We want to call another family member, or a best friend, to let them in on the good news.  When we share it with someone else, it is like we are living it all over again and enjoying it again.

Application:   It seems to me that the word “rejoice” could imply that I am re-joying something.  I am joying it again.  I am RE-joying.  I am enjoying it a second time.   When it first happened, I experienced joy and now I want those I love to re-joice with me.

Prayer:   Heavenly Father, there is no joy that is more worthy of repeating than the joy you placed in my heart.  It is a joy worth sharing with others.  It is worth saying to everyone, “Rejoice with me; I have found the love of God in Jesus.”  Amen
