October 29, 2019: SOAP #3617: Job 20; Mark 3-4
Scripture: Mark (NIV) 4:35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” 39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. 40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” 41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
Observation: There are so many thoughts that can be mined from this passage. But there is one that God has placed in my thoughts. When the boat is in the storm, it is good to have Jesus in the boat.
Application: I do not know what storms I will be facing nor when they will come. The best preparation is to make sure that I have Jesus in my “boat” today. I want to know that He hears me, and that I can hear Him! For me, that means that I need to be talking with Him when there is no storm. I cannot wait for the storm to make sure I can talk to Him and hear Him talk to me!
Prayer: Holy Spirit, keep talking to me. Talk to me every day. Even when there is no storm, talk to me, I pray. Amen
