March 20, 2020: SOAP #3760:  Joshua 7-8; Psalm 69; 1Corinthians 5

Scripture:  Psalm (NIV) 69:16 Answer me, O LORD, out of the goodness of your love; in your great mercy turn to me. 17 Do not hide your face from your servant; answer me quickly, for I am in trouble.

Observation:  In these verses, David penned a prayer that our world should be praying today.  We are in trouble.  I am not aware of any country that is unaffected by COVID-19.  I do not believe that this virus is God’s judgment; it is the natural results of sinful man breaking God’s laws.  We are reaping what we have sowed.  We are in trouble.  We need God, out of the goodness of His love, and in His great mercy to intervene for us.

Application:   As terrible as COVID-19 is, there is a much terrible “virus” that has settled on the world.  It is the “virus” of sin.  We have ignored and broken the laws of the Holy Creator God. God’s holy law tells us that the wages of sin is death and that ALL have sinned.  We are IN TROUBLE!

We can be thankful that this Holy God is also a Loving God!  It is based on God’s love that we can appeal, “Answer us quickly, for we are in trouble.”  Oh, the goodness of God’s love!!!

Prayer:   Heavenly Father, according to 1John 1:9, I confess that I have sinned, and I believe you are faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to forgive us from all unrighteousness.  My trust is in you.  I trust you to take care of the “sin virus” and the COVID-19 virus. Thank you for forgiving me and making me a part of your family.  Amen
