Standing on the promises…

March 22, 2020: SOAP #3762:  Joshua 12-14; 1Corinthians 7

Scripture:  Joshua (NIV) 13:33 But to the tribe of Levi, Moses had given no inheritance; the LORD, the God of Israel, is their inheritance, as he promised them.

Observation:  No inheritance: to some, this may appear to be a great loss.  But the promise that follows cannot be measured in earthly terms.  God’s promises are more valuable than anything we can receive of this world.  And this promise, in my estimation, exceeds all other promises.  God, Himself, has promised to be their inheritance!!!  I am singing, “He’s all I need; He’s all I need, Jesus is all I need!”

As I was reading this portion of scripture, I was reminded of another promise God made: “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.” (Malachi 3:10)

In Philippians, after thanking the church for sending money to support his ministry, Paul gives this promise from the Lord:  “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”  (4:19)

Application:  When people ask me about my retirement plan, my answer is “Tithing” and giving.   What has been placed in a retirement fund may go up and down, but my God will supply my needs, not according to the stock market, nor the local economy, but “according to His riches in glory!”

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, You are the faithful God who watches over Sharon and me.  You are the Lord of our home.  We trust you to guide us through the challenges of our retirement years.  We stand on your promises.  Our desire is to bring joy to your heart.   Amen
