May 22, 2021: SOAP #4188: 1Kings 8; 2Chronicles 5; Psalm 99; Romans 3
SCRIPTURE: Romans (NIV) 3:27 Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. On what principle? On that of observing the law? No, but on that of faith.
28 For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law.
OBSERVATION: Fact one: all have sinned. Fact two: justification comes only through the sacrifice of Jesus!
Now that the facts are in, on what basis can we boast? There is none! We cannot boast that we kept the law perfectly, for all have sinned. It is only our faith in what He has done that saves us.
There is no place for boasting. We hold to the fact that right standing before God comes only through faith in the shed blood of Jesus, and not from keeping the law.
APPLICATION: I cannot depend on my past life to gain right standing before God. I must walk in faith that my sins are forgiven and that the blood of Jesus covers my sins. What is true about the past is also true about the present. I cannot depend on my present life to earn me a place in heaven. I cannot boast about my past, nor can I boast about my present.
I must walk in faith and humility. I walk in faith because I am totally dependent on what Jesus has done for me. I walk in humility because I am totally dependent on what Jesus has done for me.
PRAYER: Jesus, thank you for what you have done for me. You provided what I could never obtain for myself. Amen
