Two deeds – Many Results

May 24, 2021: SOAP #4190:  1Kings 9; 2Chronicles 8; Psalm 136; Romans 5

SCRIPTURE:  Romans (NIV) 5:14 …death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who was a pattern of the one to come….
19 For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.

OBSERVATION: Even before the 10 commandments were given to Moses, the wages of sin has always been death!  That principle was revealed by God in the garden to Adam.  Adam did not break the 10 commandments.  They had not been given.  But Adam disobeyed God and disobedience brought death. Adam became a negative pattern of Jesus.  What he did that affected all mankind for evil, what Jesus did affected all mankind for righteousness!

The trespass in the garden opened the door for many to be sinners.  Jesus opened the door for many to be righteous!  In Genesis it was disobedience.  In the gospels it was obedience.  Adam disobeyed just one law, “Do not eat of the fruit of the tree.” Jesus obeyed all the law of Moses!

APPLICATION:  Death entered the picture because of a deed done in disobedience.  The law described deeds that could be done to demonstrate sorrow and repentance.  What Jesus brings is not some deed we need to do, but a gift we must receive!

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I am blessed to live on this side of the cross.  Thank you for sending your Son, Jesus, to take the penalty for my sins and to give me the gift of His righteousness.  By faith, I accept.  I set my life to live for your glory. Amen
