Growth

July 23, 2021: SOAP #4250:  2Kings 20; Isaiah 38-39; Psalm 75; 1Peter 2

SCRIPTURE:  1Peter (NIV) 2:2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, 3 now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

OBSERVATION: Sometimes in feeding babies, we touch their lips with the spoon that has the food.  If we can just get them a taste.  Hopefully they will like it and open their mouth for what remains on the spoon.  If they like what they taste and if they like the first spoonful, then they will finish the portion.  When they are hungry, they will anticipate being fed.

…now that you have tasted…crave pure spiritual milk.  God’s plan is our growth.  The taste awakens the hunger.  Fulfilling the hunger leads to growth.

APPLICATION:  God has many ways to bring me spiritual food.  Usually, it comes into my life through the eye gate, or the hearing gate—through reading or hearing.  It also comes through life experiences.

In my beginning, God used Spirit-anointed parents, nursery workers and Sunday School teachers to give me a little taste of His word.  As I matured, my desire for more of God’s word grew in my heart and mind.  Year after year, God was laying a foundation.  Layer by layer God was and is building a structure for His glory to be used for ministry.

PRAYER: Lord, here we are.  We have arrived at this level of growth by applying the Word we have heard and read.  We set ourselves to grow.  Next year, may our growth be noticeable.  Amen
