Unity

October 09, 2021: SOAP #4328:  Nehemiah 1-2; Psalm 133-134; Luke 22

SCRIPTURE:  Psalm (NIV) 133: 1 How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity!  2 It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down upon the collar of his robes. 3 It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the LORD bestows his blessing, even life for evermore.

OBSERVATION: Unity: such a big subject for such a short chapter!  It is good and pleasant for the believers who are a part of God’s work to live together in unity.  It requires willingness to put others first.  It requires being able to forgive and to ask forgiveness.

It is good and pleasant for unbelievers to see how we love and serve each other.  Unity is not uniformity.  In unity we use our differences to serve one another.  Our differences help determine our ministry/service.  Jesus said that the world would know that we are his disciples because we love each other.  Our love is seen by what we do for each other.

It is good and pleasant for our Heavenly Father to have his family walking in agreement, loving one another and serving one another as God has done for us.

APPLICATION:  Since it is God’s will for me to live in unity with my brothers and sisters, it must be a priority for me.  Romans 12:18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

Knowing that my relationship with my brothers and sisters in Christ affects my witness to the world motivates me to not allow offences to fester.

But my main motivation comes from bringing joy to my Heavenly Father.  I want to do things that make Him smile.

PRAYER: Holy Spirit, you are the One that teaches me and guides me into living in unity with my brothers and sisters.  I need your help.  Make me a blessing, I pray.  Amen.
