October 23, 2021: SOAP #4342:  Job 13-14; Acts 17-18

SCRIPTURE:  Acts (NIV) 18:26 He [Apollos] began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately. 27 When Apollos wanted to go to Achaia, the brothers encouraged him and wrote to the disciples there to welcome him. On arriving, he was a great help to those who by grace had believed. 28 For he vigorously refuted the Jews in public debate, proving from the Scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.

OBSERVATION: There are some good examples in this passage that should be applied to the church today.  (Vs. 24-28) First, we see Apollos.  He used his gifts to present Jesus.  He was not too proud to be teachable.  When he moved on to Achaia, he continued to be useful.  He was a good man!

Second, we see Priscilla and Aquila.  They were a faithful and useful part of the church in Ephesus.  Though not mentioned as a church leader, they listened carefully to what the preacher said.  When they heard Apollos preach something that was not right, they did not cause turmoil in the congregation, but invited him to their home.  Their faithful ministry in helping Apollos grow in his understanding helped Apollos grow in fruitful ministry.

APPLICATION:  I need to be teachable.  What I learn from others can strengthen my ministry for the glory of God!

If I hear something needing correcting, I need to help bring the correction lovingly, wisely, privately, and carefully.  Like in this passage, the goal of any correction should be future, fruitful ministry.

PRAYER: Use me, Lord, for your glory.  Use me to bring benefit to your church. Amen.
