Pastor Leon’s SOAP: Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer
January 19, 2022: SOAP #4430: Genesis 47-48; Psalm 10; Luke 19
SCRIPTURE: Luke (NIV) 19:47 Every day he was teaching at the temple. But the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the leaders among the people were trying to kill him.
OBSERVATION: It was just a few days before Jesus was to be crucified. But Jesus was not out taking it easy and preparing himself for the days ahead. “Every day he was teaching … ” I believe it was the way of Jesus preparing His disciples for the hard days ahead. The day of the crucifixion would be hard on the disciples. While He would be away, He left them with His words, with His teachings. He did not take a day off from teaching.
If it was important for Jesus to do this “every day” then it is important for His followers to be listening to Him “every day.”
APPLICATION: When I am facing hard days, I need to spend time sitting at the feet of Jesus, listening to His words. However, I often do not know when I will be facing hard times, so I need to spend time hearing His words every day!
Twelve years ago when I started writing SOAPs, I foolishly wondered if God would give me something every day! I have discovered that the question is not, will God speak to me every day? The question is, will I listen every day?”
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I like to sing “And He walks with me, and He talks with me; and He tells me I am His own.” I remember when you told me that you like to sing that song also. You sing it about me. You love it when I walk with You and talk with You and tell You “You are my one and only God!” What an honor, that You speak to me! Amen.
