Pastor Leon’s SOAP: Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer
August 8, 2022: SOAP #4631: Jeremiah 1-2; John 10
SCRIPTURE: Jeremiah (NIV) 1:4 The word of the LORD came to me, saying, 5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born, I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” 6 “Ah, Sovereign LORD,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am only a child.” 7 But the LORD said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am only a child.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. 8 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the LORD. 9 Then the LORD reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “Now, I have put my words in your mouth.
OBSERVATION: The assignment was too great for Jeremiah. He did not know how he would be able to do what God said. From reading on, we can see that Jeremiah was not alone in thinking such thoughts. God agreed with Jeremiah. God did not think that Jeremiah would be able to fulfill his assignment! God would put God’s words in Jeremiah’s mouth! God also promised Jeremiah that he would not be going alone; God was going with him!!!
When Jeremiah told God his limitations, he was not telling God anything new. God already knew that the job was too big for Jeremiah. And God already knew how Jeremiah’s limitations could be overcome. God put His words in Jeremiah’s mouth and God promised to be WITH HIM!
APPLICATION: I should not be surprised when the things I face are too big for me. God is not wanting to prove how much I can do, but to prove how much He can do through me. Nothing is too big for God! Nothing is too hard for God!! Nothing is impossible for God!!! I am not facing this world based on my abilities, but on HIS abilities!
I have often prayed for God to be glorified in my life. I should consider the impossible things I face as answers to those prayers! He will be glorified in me as people see what He can do through me.
PRAYER: Lord, as I go through this day, I am counting on you to put your words in my mouth. Speak through me to those around me. Speak to me and through me, I pray. Use these SOAPs to encourage others. Amen
