God, be God!

Pastor Leon’s SOAP:  Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer
January 26, 2023: SOAP #4802: Exodus 14-16; Acts 2

SCRIPTURE:  Exodus (NIV) 16:31 The people of Israel called the bread manna. It was white like coriander seed and tasted like wafers made with honey…
33 So Moses said to Aaron, “Take a jar and put an omer of manna in it. Then place it before the LORD to be kept for the generations to come.”  34 As the LORD commanded Moses, Aaron put the manna in front of the Testimony, that it might be kept. 35 The Israelites ate manna for forty years, until they came to a land that was settled; they ate manna until they reached the border of Canaan. 36 (An omer is one tenth of an ephah.)

OBSERVATION:  There are many miracles of food provision in both the Old and New Testaments.  This is, in my opinion, the greatest.   There was no small starter lunch to be broken and distributed.  Six days a week, for 40 years, God provided manna and water for 2+ million Israelites!

I found the following on the internet:  Historians tell us that there were approximately 2,400,000 Israelites who left Egypt and went into the desert. God provided a ½ gallon of manna for each of them every day. That equals 1,200,000 gallons a day. Every day.Feb 3, 2017

APPLICATION: Another reason this miracle is special to me, it happened on the continent of Africa.  Today in Africa there is much poverty and hunger; so many are looking for money to purchase food.  I receive 5-6 requests from Africa every day for money to purchase food.  I am often praying, “God, you can do again.  People have opened their homes and stretched their food to care for orphans.  Build their faith to believe you for the impossible.  May their lives and the miracle of provision you do provide people examples today of what faith in You can do. Amen”

PRAYER:   When we are faced with something beyond our capabilities we can pray:  God, all we can do is be people; we need you to be God!  Amen.
