SCRIPTURE: Revelation (NIV) 22:16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you {The Greek is plural. } this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.” 17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life.
OBSERVATION: What a special word — come. Often it is spoken, “Come here” or “Come with me.” It is a word of invitation. It speaks of presence — the presence of the speaker. The speaker is inviting me to join Him.
The word “Go” speaks of assignment but does not carry the idea of the presence of the speaker. “Come” causes the hearer to focus on the speaker. Who is it that says, “Come?” Into whose presence am I being invited, or with whom will I be going?
APPLICATION: As in this chapter, the New Testament comes to a close, God is making sure that His invitation is clear. It is to whoever is thirsty. It is to whoever feels that life has not satisfied them. It is for those who are looking for a satisfying life, a life with purpose and reason.
Jesus offers the refreshing water, but we must take it. It is as simple as acknowledging we have sinned, and that Jesus died for our sins. Believing that it is being offered to us, we simply take it by saying, “Thank you!”
PRAYER: Yes, Lord, I will come. Thank you for including me and making me a prat of your plans. I am humbled by your invitation. I receive your forgiveness and I receive your presence in my life as my Lord. Amen
