Using my Limitations

Pastor Leon’s SOAP:  Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer
January 07, 2024: SOAP #5148: Genesis 18-19; Psalm 3; Luke 7

SCRIPTURE:  Luke (NIV) 7:2There a centurion’s servant, whom his master valued highly, was sick and about to die. 3 The centurion heard of Jesus and sent some elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and heal his servant. 4 When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly with him, “This man deserves to have you do this, 5 because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue.”
6 So Jesus went with them. He was not far from the house when the centurion sent friends to say to him: “Lord, don’t trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. 7 That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed.

OBSERVATION:  The Jews spoke to Jesus on behalf of the centurion.  He was an officer of Rome and had authority over them, yet he used his authority to serve them.  He desired Jesus’ help, not for himself, but on behalf of his servant, someone under his authority.

APPLICATION:  Verses 1-10 of Like 7 have many great truths, but the Lord directs me to two simple applications.  First, I should be willing to carry the concerns of others to Jesus.  When someone dumps their heavy load on me, I should take them to Jesus!  There are so many limitations to what I can do, but not to what He can do!

Second, I should seek Jesus’ help for problems at home.  He is interested in every aspect of our lives.  He can help those in our household!

PRAYER:  Jesus, what a kind and gracious friend you are to me.  Use me to bring others to you.  Use me to help their faith increase.  Use my limitations to point them to your unlimited abundance.  Amen
