What do I see?

Pastor Leon’s SOAP:  Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer
August 02, 2024: SOAP #5356: 2Kings 21; 2Chronicles 33; John 4

SCRIPTURE:  John (NIV) 4:35 Do you not say, ‘Four months more and then the harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.

OBSERVATION: Jesus had stopped outside Samaria to rest.  He sent his disciples into the town to get some food.  While He was sitting at the well, a woman came alone to draw water.  Jesus struck up a conversation with her.  She realized he was a prophet, but He claimed even more.  He claimed to be the promised Christ!  As He revealed himself to her, the disciples returned to find Jesus speaking to a strange woman.  Jesus spoke to them the words in the verse above.  They were to open their eyes to see what was around them.

When the disciples “opened their eyes” to look at the “fields” what did they see?  They saw crowds of people coming from the city of Samaria because of the woman’s testimony!

APPLICATION:  When I open my eyes to look around me, what do I see?  When I allow the Holy Spirit who lives inside me…when I allow Him to reveal truth in what I see…I see the same thing the disciples saw.  I see crowds of people who need to meet Jesus!

Jesus interrupted his journey and stayed in Samaria for two days.  Read on…

39 Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.” 40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days. 41 And because of his words many more became believers. 42 They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”

PRAYER: Lord, open my eyes that I may see the harvest all around me.  Interrupt my schedule and give me an opportunity to help people to you.  Amen
