SCRIPTURE: John (NIV) 2:5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” 7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water;” so they filled them to the brim. 8 Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” …9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. …10 and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”
OBSERVATION: The wedding out of wine. Jesus mother told the servants to do whatever Jesus told them to do. Jesus gave them two commands; #1, fil the jars with water and #2, draw some out and take it to the master of ceremonies.
Jesus did not ask them to do what they could not do, but only what they could do. It probably did not make much sense to the servants, but they obeyed, and so they became a part of Jesus first miracle. The miracle happened as they obeyed.
APPLICATION: I have found that Jesus does the same for me. He only asks me to do what I can do. Sometimes He requires more than I want to do, but He never requires more than I can do. As the servants filled the jars to the brim, I want to do His bidding with the same diligence. When I obey and do what I can do, He does what only He can do!
I wonder how many times I have missed participating in a miracle because I knew that my part would not be enough to meet the need. I did not obey and do what He told me and so I missed out on a miracle. Doing my part in faith opens the door for the Holy Spirit to do what only God can do.
PRAYER: Lord, thank you for letting me be a partner in what you are doing. Thank you for giving me the privilege of working with You! Amen
