SCRIPTURE: 1Corinthians (NIV) 6:16 Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.” 17 But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit. 18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. 19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your body.
OBSERVATION: The sexual union of two people establishes a soulish bond as well as their flesh being one in the child that may come from that union. Although God created man and woman to be sexual creatures, sexual expression is clearly meant to be within the bounds of marriage. As enjoyable as sexual intimacy was meant to be, that is not the highest purpose of the body.
A greater union is the union we can have with the Holy Spirit. He makes our body His temple, His dwelling place!
APPLICATION: The primary—the highest purpose of my body is as a holy temple in which the Lord dwells. My body is the place where My Lord and I enjoy fellowship. My body is to be a place for God to enjoy. In being separate entities inhabiting the same body, we (God and I) enjoy wonderful fellowship. And in being joined as one spirit we enjoy expression, purpose and power in ministry.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, thank you for making my body your dwelling place and for allowing me to be a part of what you are doing in the earth. Amen
