This is to every ONE!

Pastor Leon’s SOAP:  Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer
February 01, 2026:  SOAP #5904:   Exodus 30-32; Acts 8

SCRIPTURE:  Acts (NIV) 8:26  Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Go south to the road—the desert road—that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” 27 So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians. This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship, 28 and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the book of Isaiah the prophet.
29 The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.” 30 Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked….
35 Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.

OBSERVATION:  God had been using Philip to minister in Samaria.  (Acts 8:5-13)  Miracles and healings and deliverance brought many to Jesus.  Peter and John went to see what God was doing, and the Spirit sent Philip toward Gaza.  One the road he met a single person, an Ethiopian on his way home.

It was the same Holy Spirit that ministered through Philip to the whole city of Samaria, who now ministered through Philip to a single person.  The same Holy Spirit who had ministered in miracles, was now ministering through directing the Ethiopian where to read in the book of Isaiah!

APPLICATION:  For the last six weeks the SOAP ministry has seen thousands of people respond to seeing miracles and healings by making Jesus Lord and Savior of their lives.  We must never forget that the Holy Spirit ministers to individuals, even when there is only one.  Every ONE is important to Jesus!  Every ONE is important to us.  The miracle of God reaching hundreds is no less wonderful than the miracle of God reaching one!

PRAYER:  Holy Spirit, continue flowing through this SOAP ministry to every individual who prints or distributes this SOAP.  And especially minister to every ONE who reads this SOAP.  In Jesus Name, Amen

Unplanned Opportunity!

Pastor Leon’s SOAP:  Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer
October 06, 2025: SOAP #5786: Esther 9-10; Luke 19

SCRIPTURE:  Luke (NIV) 19:1 Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. 2 A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. 3 He wanted to see who Jesus was, but being a short man, he could not, because of the crowd.4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way. 5 When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.”

OBSERVATION:  Jesus had no plans to spend time in Jericho; He was just passing through on His way to Jerusalem.   But His life was not His own; He was living as a man led by the Holy Spirit.  His journey that day was interrupted by opportunity.

That interruption brought Zacchaeus into the kingdom, restored overcharged tax money, and became a part of the eternal scriptures!   That was a very important interruption!

APPLICATION:  Psalm 37:23 says, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delights in his way.”  Could that mean that the interruptions are also ordered by the Lord?  Hmmm…

I need to be open to interruptions.  Those interruptions may become the most important part of my day!  Before pushing them aside, I need to see if the Holy Spirit is preparing to do something special.

PRAYER:  Holy Spirit, forgive me for thinking I am too busy doing important things to be bothered by interruptions.  Forgive me for thinking that I alone know how to best plan my day.  Bring this scripture to my mind the next time I am interrupted by an opportunity to bless someone for the glory of Jesus.  Amen

How would you Feel?

Pastor Leon’s SOAP:  Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer
July 28, 2025: SOAP #5716: Isaiah 53-56; 2Peter 2

SCRIPTURE:  Isaiah (NIV) 53:11 After the suffering of his soul, he will see the light of life and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities. 12 Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

OBSERVATION:   Isaiah, the Old Testament prophet spoke with such clarity about the sacrificial death of Jesus.  The Heavenly Father sent His son, Jesus to live a sinless life then die in payment for the sins of all who would receive Him.

APPLICATION:   One question stirs strongly in my heart.  If it had been my son who had to suffer and die for the sins of others, how many people would I want to be saved?  Surely, I would want as many to be saved as possible!   I would want everyone to be saved!

How would I feel if someone was saved by the sacrifice of my son, but refused to tell or help save others?  I would rejoice that one was saved but frustrated that they were unwilling to share the good news with others about to be lost!

That is how I would feel; how about you?

PRAYER:   Heavenly Father, that is how you feel!  Holy Spirit, make me aware of the opportunities I will have today to tell someone about Jesus and what He has done for me and what He can do for them.   Amen

Given and Received    (More from Romans 4)

Pastor Leon’s SOAP:  Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer
May 27, 2025: SOAP #5654: Proverbs 4-6; Romans 8

SCRIPTURE: and OBSERVATION:
Romans (NIV) 4:16 Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the law but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.

Here is the summation.  Here is the heart of the matter.  Here is where we have security.  The promise given to us by grace is received by faith.  It comes from the gracious hand of a loving Heavenly Father.  It is received as a gift by the children of Abraham.  They receive this gift through the hands of faith.  They are assured of their possession because they have confidence in the One who made the promise!  They are justified freely by His grace!  It is guaranteed to them.

For a gift to fulfill its purpose it must be both given and received.  God, the Giver, in grace gives His Word.  Man, the receiver, in faith receives the gift.

Heaven’s righteousness is only available from heaven.  It is only given through God’s grace.  It is only received through faith.  That is the way Abraham received justification.  That is the way his children receive justification.  Both those born under the law, and those born outside the law (of Moses), must come the same way.  They must come in faith.  Although Abraham is the physical father of the Jewish nation, he is the father of those who believe.

APPLICATION:   When a person received Jesus as Lord, it is very common for them to experience great joy and peace.  But it is not the joy and peace that saves us.  They are common and logical responses to the presence of Jesus living within.  What saves us is our faith in accepting the grace offered to us through the death and resurrection of God’s Son Jesus.  We have faith that God accepts the death of Jesus as the payment for our sins.  It is not that He will, but that He has!   We are free from the burden of sin!

PRAYER:   Lord, just the thought of what you have done for me makes my heart rejoice!   The more I understand what you have done for me, the more I rejoice.  May my life today be an expression of my gratefulness.  Amen

A SOAP from Romans – Possessing what I could never earn!

Pastor Leon’s SOAP:  Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer
May 23, 2025: SOAP #5650: 2Chronicles 6, 7; Psalm 135; Romans 4

Note: A continuation from Romans 4.

SCRIPTURE: and OBSERVATION:
Romans (NIV) 4  Now when a man works, his wages are not credited to him as a gift, but as an obligation.

Abraham did not work to earn his standing before God; he simply received it, and held on to it with the “hands” of faith.  This was not something earned, but given.  It is not a reward for services rendered, but a gift to one loved.  God was not obligated to Abraham.  God was gracious to Abraham!

5  However, to the man who does not work but trusts God who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness.

Here is a good place to insert a thought about works.  Works are not unimportant.  God is very interested in our works.  He rewards our works.  However, works can never be the basis of our expectation as though God must pay us what we have earned.  Works do not precede faith; they come as a response to faith.  Works are what we do out of appreciation for the grace we have already received by faith.

Faith must have a sure foundation.  When our faith is in God and His work for our salvation, we receive the blessings of God’s righteousness credited to our account.  In God’s eyes, we become righteous.  Our sins are forgiven; our lives are cleansed.  We are justified!  We are made “just as if I’d” never sinned!  Amazing!  It is only through faith that I possess what I could never earn.

APPLICATION:   Sometimes it seems that it is too good to be true.  Salvation is a gift!  We could never earn it, but we can receive it by faith.  And the more we understand how hopelessly we were lost; the more we understand that Jesus is the sinless Son of God; the more we understand how much He left to die on a cross as payment for our sins; the more we understand what He is preparing for us—then the more we appreciate our salvation.

If you love Him today, just wait until you know Him better; you will love Him more!  Indeed, He is worthy of all my love and service!

PRAYER:  Lord, my heart overflows with appreciation as I reconsider the truth above.  My eyes overflow with tears.  I love you, Jesus!  Amen

A SOAP from Romans – Simply by Faith!

Pastor Leon’s SOAP:  Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer
May 23, 2025: SOAP #5650: 2Chronicles 6, 7; Psalm 135; Romans 4

NOTE:  For the next few SOAPs, I believe the Lord would have me change the format.  I am concerned about the many new believers who have committed their lives to Jesus but have no copy of the Bible and may not have a knowledgeable leader from which to learn.  So, I will be using a longer passage of scripture, with each verse followed by an observation from a commentary I wrote years ago.  I will continue with more verses from the same passage for several consecutive days.  Below is Romans 4:2&3.

SCRIPTURE: and OBSERVATION:   Romans (NIV) 4:2  If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about—but not before God.

If it had been possible that Abraham could have worked hard enough to stand before God completely righteous, then he would indeed have had something about which to boast.  He would have been able to do what no man had ever done before or has ever since been able to do.  Ever since sin entered the picture it has been impossible for man to stand by himself before God.  The best we can offer is like dirty rags in comparison to God’s perfect holiness.

Abraham would not have been able to boast before God, because God judges perfectly and knows how far short our works come in purchasing the righteousness needed to stand before a holy God.  He would have never been able to boast before God!

3  What does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”

How was Abraham able to be the “friend of God?”  How did Abraham become the father of the nation, he who had no children of his own? It was simply by faith.  Abraham believed.  He believed what God said.

APPLICATION:   Forgiveness and salvation have been provided by the death of Jesus on the cross. In grace, they are offered to us.  We reach out with arms of faith to acknowledge that we receive them. (Ephesians 2:8-9)   Believing in our heart and confessing with our mouth!  Becoming God’s child is as simple as that!  (Romans 10: 9-10)  Now I begin to live like it is true, because it is!

PRAYER:   Heavenly Father, thank you for sending your Son, Jesus, to die for my sins.  I receive Jesus to be my LORD.  I receive His forgiveness.  I now set my life to live in honor of what you have done for me.  Amen

Just AND Merciful!!!

Pastor Leon’s SOAP:  Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer
March 19, 2025: SOAP #5585:  Joshua 3-6; 1Corinthians 40

SCRIPTURE:  1Corinthians (NIV) 4:2 Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.  3 I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself.  4 My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent.  It is the Lord who judges me.  5 Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait till the Lord comes.  He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of people’s hearts.  At that time each will receive their praise from God.

OBSERVATION:   People who rush to judgment often misjudge because they do not take time to evaluate the hidden motives.

Some things are judged before their appointed time as being bad, but they are not bad just immature.

Some things are judged good, but the hidden motives of the heart show that they are not good.

APPLICATION:   God is the only perfect judge.  He knows me perfectly.  He knows the motives behind my actions.  He knows my weaknesses and immaturities.

He is a JUST judge requiring full payment for sin.  Yet He is a MERCIFUL judge accepting the death of His own Son, Jesus, as the FULL PAYMENT for my sin!

PRAYER:   Heavenly Father, I am so thankful that you are my judge.  You know me; you understand me; but best of all, you love me!  You sent your son to die as payment for my sins.  You know my sins, yet when I confess them, you forgive me and give me a clean conscience!  You have forgiven ALL my sins; I give you ALL my life.  Amen

HE made it all; HE lives in me!

Pastor Leon’s SOAP:  Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer
July 04, 2024: SOAP #5327:  2Kings 15-16; Hosea 1; Hebrews 1

SCRIPTURE:  Hebrews (NIV) 1:10 He [God speaking to Jesus] also says, “In the beginning, O Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. 11 They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. 12 You will roll them up like a robe; like a garment they will be changed. But you remain the same, and your years will never end.”

OBSERVATION:    In these verses, God is speaking through the author of the book of Hebrews the same thing He said through the apostle in John 1:3  “All things were made by him and without Him was not anything made that was made.”
This work of His hands will perish.  It will wear out like a suit of clothes.  It will all change, but JESUS will never change!   He eternally remains the same!

APPLICATION:  Pick any day in the future; pick tomorrow, or a day next week, or next year, or 50 years from now, or 1000 years from now…Jesus will be the same!   He will be just as loving then as He was when He died on the cross for our sins.   He will be just as holy then as He was when He paid the price for our sins.  He wants us to know that God loves us!  He wants us to be holy, free from the stains of sin.  Because of His death, He forgives us and cleanses us from all unrighteousness!  (1John 1:9)
What a mistake to let my attention be captivated by that which is going to change and perish rather than keep my attention focused of Him who never changes!!!  What a mistake to focus on the temporary things rather than on the Eternal One!!!

Note: Your circumstances have changed. They will change again. Some changes will be better and some worse.  Know that He will use the changes to change you for His glory.  Keep your attention on HIM who never changes.  He is with you and will be with you through all the changes.  Keep your ears open to His voice and your hand in His. He loves you!  Amen

PRAYER:  Lord, whatever happens in this temporary world does not change the truth that you, the unchanging God, have made me your dwelling place.  I can always count on your presence.  “You walk with me, and you talk with me, and you tell me I am your own…”  Amen
