August 14: Jeremiah 16-17; Psalm 96; John 16

Scripture: Jeremiah 16: 14 ¶ “However, the days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when men will no longer say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of Egypt,’

15 but they will say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of the north and out of all the countries where he had banished them.’ For I will restore them to the land I gave to their forefathers.

Observation: Jeremiah was living in the days of the first saying; Israel had been delivered from Egypt. We are now living in the days of the second: the nation of Israel has been restored! The people both have been and are being restored. God is the Great Promise Keeper!

Application: God, who has been faithful to keep His word to Israel, also keeps his word to me. For me, the present existence of the nation of Israel is a great visible proof that I can trust God to keep His promises to me.

Prayer: Lord, how blest I am to know that the Almighty God is holy and faithful to keep His word. Amen.
