The Good Giver

September 28: Zechariah 1-3; Luke 11

Scripture: Luke 11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

Observation: Parents of small children are the best givers. Parents know what a child needs. They know what the child likes. They can wrap it is the child’s favorite colors. As they understand their child better than anyone else, they know best how to present the gift. And along with the gift, comes the gift of themselves. They give it with love and enjoy seeing the delight in their child’s eyes. Parents enjoy watching their child mature and ask for gifts more appropriate for their age.

Of all the ways parents are good givers, this verse tells us that even more our heavenly Father enjoys giving the Holy Spirit to those who ask.

Application: NOTE to Leon: Make the Holy Spirit your friend. If my heavenly Father enjoys giving me the Holy Spirit, how much more does He enjoy watching me learn how to recognize the Holy Spirit’s voice and then follow His directions.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, today I want to hear you speak to and through me. I want to recognize your Presence in my life and recognize when you want to reach out of me to help someone else. Amen.
