October 12: Nehemiah 7-8; Acts 1

Scripture: Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

Observation: The One who had given them the assignment to go into the entire world and preach the gospel to every creature was now telling them to stay in Jerusalem until they had been empowered with the Holy Spirit. To do what God assigned them to do would require more than their human resources. They would need the power of the Holy Spirit.

Application: The more I rely on the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, the more effective I am in fulfilling what God has sent me to do. Like Zechariah wrote, “Not by might, not by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord!” (Zechariah 4:6)

Prayer: Holy Spirit, I need your help every day and all day long! Amen.
