The Lord’s focus

April 14: 1Samuel 15-16; 1Chronicles 5; Matthew 1

The Lord’s focus

Scripture: 1Samuel 16:7 But the LORD said to Samuel, ‘Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."

Observation: Samuel had been sent by the Lord to anoint one of Jesse’s seven sons to be the next king of Israel. As the first one was brought before Samuel, the Lord spoke the words above. This son looked good from all outward appearances, but the Lord was looking at the heart. As we read further we find the youngest son, David, had a heart that was more aligned with God desire for Israel.

Application: It is not my outward appearance that the Lord considers. He is focused on my heart. He knows my thoughts, my intentions, and my motives. He knows my history and the plans He has for me. He knows how to work all circumstances together for my good and His glory.

Prayer: Lord, it pleases me that you know what I will face today and you will help me respond properly. Amen.
