My Lips

Pastor Leon’s SOAP: Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer

November 3: Job 25; Mark 13-14

Scripture: Mark 14:70 Again he denied it. After a little while, those standing near said to Peter, "Surely you are one of them, for you are a Galilean."
71 He began to call down curses on himself, and he swore to them, "I don’t know this man you’re talking about."

Observation: It was probably his accent and/or clothing that indicated that Peter was from Galilee and someone who knew Jesus. When they would not accept his word that he did not know Jesus, Peter began to curse and swear. He was hoping his words would break any identity with Jesus.

Application: My words can identify me as a follower of Jesus or not a follower of Jesus. I need to be careful how I speak. My words can carry the patience of Jesus or the impatience of Leon.

Prayer: Set a guard over my mouth, O LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips. (Psalm 141:3) Amen.
