Adding Value

Pastor Leon’s SOAP: Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer

May 19: 1Kings 4, 5; 2Chronicles 2; Psalm 101; 2Thessalonians 3

Scripture: 2Thessalonians (NIV) 3:10 For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”
11 We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies.
12 Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the food they eat.
13 And as for you, brothers and sisters never tire of doing what is good.

Observation: A person who is able to work but not willing to work still expects to eat. Paul says not to feed him. He is not living according to God’s word. Just because someone does not work, does not mean he is inactive. He may become a “busybody” expending his energy on things that are disruptive. His activities do not add value to himself or to anyone else.

Application: I hear the Lord saying to me that I should not let myself get so weary that I stop doing what is helpful. I need to do things that add value to my life and the lives of others. I need to give my body physical rest and keep my thoughts focused on Jesus. I need to be a worshipping worker; after all God is looking for worshippers.

Prayer: Lord, nothing refreshes me more than sensing your Presence and knowing that what I am doing pleases you. Amen
