What does He get?

Pastor Leon’s SOAP: Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer

December 5: Ephesians 5-6; Psalm 119:1-80

Scripture: Psalm (NIV) 119:17 Be good to your servant while I live, that I may obey your word.
(KJV) 119:17 Deal bountifully with thy servant, that I may live, and keep thy word.

Observation: What caught my attention was not that the psalmist wanted God’s help, but the reason he wanted God’s help. It was not so that life would be easier for him or that he would be able to do what pleased himself. He needed God’s help SO THAT he could obey God’s word. He desired that his life be a demonstration of how to please God. He wanted people to see the benefit of obeying God’s Word.

Application: What does God get out of my prayers? If He answered each request, would He be helping me to continue living a selfish, non-committed life? That would not benefit Him, or me. When He helps me, does He have a grateful servant with a greater commitment to do His will?

Prayer: Lord, may I be quick to express my thanks for Your help. May I always be ready to tell others what You have done for me. And in appreciation, may I be quick to obey Your Word. I want to live my life so that it is easy for You to answer my prayers. Amen
