Pastor Leon’s SOAP: Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer
February 24: Numbers 14-16; Mark 3
Scripture: Numbers (NIV) 14:19 “In accordance with your great love, forgive the sin of these people, just as you have pardoned them from the time they left Egypt until now.”
20 The LORD replied, “I have forgiven them, as you asked.”
Observation: The Israelites had rebelled against the Lord. They let fear of the Canaanites set their decisions rather than faith in what God would do. God was ready to “strike them down with a plague” and make Moses into a great nation. (verse 12) But Moses prays for them. He prays in accordance with God’s character.
How does God respond to such self-less intercession? He grants the request. He did not respond according to His anger, but according to Moses’ request!
Application: I often pray according to my need, my desires. I often pray for the needs of others. I should start praying according to God’s character. I should pray according to God’s needs and what is important to Him.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, as I pray, guide my thoughts. May I pray prayers that you enjoy answering. Amen
