Mercy

Pastor Leon’s SOAP: Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer

September 22: Daniel 9-10; Psalm 123; Luke 5

Scripture: Psalm (NIV) 123:1 I lift up my eyes to you, to you whose throne is in heaven.
2 As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid look to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till he shows us his mercy.

Observation: Mercy is undeserved forgiveness. It is often offered even before requested. The Psalmist knew where to look for mercy. He took his eyes off sources of earthly mercy and looked to the One who ruled not only the earth, but also the heavens. Hebrews 14:6 tells us that we can “come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy.”

Application: I know of people who have died waiting for someone on earth to forgive them and extend mercy. How thankful I am that I know of one who sits on a throne of mercy. He has sufficient mercy for me and I have never waited long to receive mercy. To Him I look with expectation that I will receive what is needed.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your great mercy! I desire that the mercy that flows from you to me also flows from me to others. Amen
