September 26, 2016: SOAP #2489: Ezra 4; Psalm 113, 127; Luke 9
Scripture: Luke (NIV) 9:1 When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, 2 and he sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. 3 He told them: “Take nothing for the journey—no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra tunic. 4 Whatever house you enter, stay there until you leave that town. 5 If people do not welcome you, shake the dust off your feet when you leave their town, as a testimony against them.” 6 So they set out and went from village to village, preaching the gospel and healing people everywhere.
Observation: Jesus did not have the disciples come into the temple and synagogues, but He sent them out to where the people lived and worked.
Application: Serving God is not something I do on Sunday; it is seven days every week. It is not just for church, but for my home and my place of employment. I must consider myself sent to share the good news that Jesus loves people and wants to be a part of their everyday life.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, as the Father sent you into the world, (John 3:16-17; 20:21) so you have sent me into the world where I am. Use me for your glory, I pray. Amen
