His Servant

January 17, 2017: SOAP #2602:  Genesis 42-43; Psalm 5; Luke 17

Scripture:  Luke (NIV) 17:7 “Suppose one of you had a servant ploughing or looking after the sheep. Would he say to the servant when he comes in from the field, ‘Come along now and sit down to eat’? 8 Would he not rather say, ‘Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink’? 9 Would he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do? 10 So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.’”

Observation:   Christians often refer to themselves as servants of Jesus, but do not understand what it means to be a servant.  They are willing to serve, but only when it is convenient.  They expect to be rewarded for every sacrifice they make.  They are more interested in what God can do for them instead of what they can do for God.

Those who call Him Lord must see themselves as His servants.  They must learn to recognize how He speaks to them.  They must do what He says.  They see their possessions as His possessions and themselves as His stewards.

Application:  What is my duty?  Simple; I must do what He says.

Prayer:    Heavenly Father, I desire to be a servant that brings you joy and honor today.  Among the many things before me to do, may I be careful not to miss what you have told me.  Amen
