One way to learn…

March 25, 2017: SOAP #2669: Joshua 21-22; Psalm 47; 1Corinthians 10

Scripture:  1Corinthians (NIV) 10:6 Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. 7 Do not be idolaters, as some of them were… 8 We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did… 9 We should not test the Lord, as some of them did… 10 And do not grumble, as some of them did… 11 These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfilment of the ages has come.

Observation:   To learn by example is a great advantage.  People who can learn from the example of others do not have to experience the lesson themselves.  However, there are two different kinds of examples:  good and bad.  The problem with a bad example is that it only gives one way of NOT doing it, but does not show the right way.  The blessing of a good example is that it leads to success for others.

Application:   It is good for others to be able to learn from my life.  I trust that there are more examples of what to do than of what not to do.  My desire is to be a good example.

Prayer:   Jesus, thank You for Your great example that is recorded in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.  You showed us how to live.  You showed us how to be both holy and loving.  Shine through me today.  Amen
