June 5, 2017: SOAP #2741: Proverbs 30,31; Psalm 33; Ephesians 1
Scripture: Psalm (NIV) 33:16 No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength.
17 A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save.
18 But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, 19 to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.
20 We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield.
Observation: Bragging on the size of one’s army, or the greatness of one’s strength is foolish. The greatest aircraft carriers, the fastest jet airplanes, the most powerful and accurate missiles are not reliable for our defense.
But that does not mean there is no reliable defense available. The greatest defender of all is the LORD God! He defends those who fear Him and put their trust in Him.
Application: It is good to hear more of our national leaders express their personal faith in God. It is good to hear them express that the source of our blessing and defense is the LORD God!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, you promised that your eyes would be upon those who “fear” you and “hope in your unfailing love.” Fulfill this promise in the lives of our leaders and in the life of our nation we pray. Amen
