August 28, 2017: SOAP #2825: Ezekiel 1-3; Revelation 2
Scripture: Ezekiel (NIV) 1:27 I saw that from what appeared to be his waist up he looked like glowing metal, as if full of fire, and that from there down he looked like fire; and brilliant light surrounded him.
28 Like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the radiance around him. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. When I saw it, I fell face down, and I heard the voice of one speaking.
Observation: Ezekiel had the same experience as John in the book of Revelation, Adam in the Garden, and Moses at the burning bush. He heard God speak to him.
If someone wanted to know about God and they started reading the Bible from Genesis 1:1, the first thing they would discover about God is that He exists! He is! The second thing they would discover is that he is the Creator! The third thing is that He is a Speaker.
Application: Knowing that God speaks, makes me want to be able to hear His voice. I am finding, the better I know the Bible, the easier it is to recognize His voice. Often, He speaks to me through His written Word. When He speaks other than through the scriptures, my knowledge of the scriptures helps me verify that it is His voice I am hearing and not another.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, what great knowledge, to know you speak. What great privilege to listen as you speak to me. What great love I find in your Word. What great purpose in understanding your plans for me. Amen
