October 20, 2017: SOAP #2878: Job 6-8; Acts 12
Scripture: Acts (NIV) 12:4 After arresting him [Peter], he put him in prison, handing him over to be guarded by four squads of four soldiers each. Herod intended to bring him out for public trial after the Passover.
Observation: If one reads further into the chapter, they see that Herod’s intention never happened! Instead of being escorted out of jail to a public trial by a squad of Roman soldiers, Peter was escorted out of the jail by an “angel of the LORD!” The chains fell off and the first-century prison doors became twenty-first century super-market doors that open as one approaches. Instead of being escorted to a public trial as Herod intended, Peter made his way to an all-night prayer meeting.
Application: I need to remember that man never has the absolute final say. When I place myself under God’s authority by obeying His directions I can trust Him to take care of the results. Obedience is my responsibility; results are His.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I trust you to take care of the results. You alone have the final word. Amen
