What A Teacher!

November 2: Job 23-24; Mark 11-12

Scripture: Mark 12:1 (NIV) 1 He then began to speak to them in parables: “A man planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a pit for the winepress and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and went away on a journey.

Observation: When Jesus taught heavenly principles He always used earthy illustrations that would be easy for people to understand. He used illustrations from their everyday life, things with which they were already familiar. When He left, He sent the Holy Spirit to continue this ministry of revealing truth.

Application: When the Holy Spirit shows me something new I often come away thinking, that is so simple. The most profound truths are put in the simplest of terms so that even I can understand them! He is a good teacher for me because 1) He perfectly understands the truth, and 2) He perfectly understands me. I could not ask for a better teacher.

Several weeks ago I stood gazing at a large framed picture of a cross section of the human ear. I recalled drawing such a picture in a health class back in the 1960’s. I vaguely recall my amazement at how the parts of the ear worked together to provide my sense of hearing. But this poster had important details of such tiny parts that were probably unknown when I made my drawing. Though unknown, yet they were there, working together, or I would have been unable to hear. The Holy Spirit was using a very earthy illustration to impress on me the wonderful capabilities of my Creator! The intricacy of the design demanded acknowledgment of an amazing Designer!

Prayer: Holy Spirit, thank you for being my teacher. Enable those of us who teach to clearly understanding the truth and how to best communicate it to others. Amen.
