Not Expected

Scripture: Matthew (NIV) 24:42 Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.

Observation: In the 1970s Sharon and I taught Sunday School classes in the chapel at Kaneohe Marine Corps Air Station in Hawaii. One day I asked the young people in my class what would be the latest date we should expect Jesus to return. They said 1985, 1990, etc. with the latest being 2000. When I asked them why they chose that year, their response was: I want to graduate from college; I want to have my own family; etc. Each one had figured the coming of Jesus according to their own time line.

Application: Jesus is not coming when I expect Him, or when it is convenient for me, or when I have accomplished everything I want to do. I must be ready. I must live ready. From looking at Matthew 24, this is the right season for His return; it may just be today!

Prayer: Jesus, I believe you are about to return to this earth. Even so come, Lord Jesus! (Revelation 22:20) Amen
