June 14. 2015: SOAP #2019: 1Kings 15; 2Chronicles 13, 14; Philippians 4
Why this promise?
Scripture: Philippians (NIV) 4:19 And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.
Observation: Here is a verse that all Christians would like to claim for themselves. What a privilege, and a relief to know that God is not only able, but willing to meet all our needs! Why would the Holy Spirit direct Paul to write such a promise! What was it about the Philippians that would bring such a promise? Why did not Paul write this promise in his letters to the other churches? The obvious answer can be found in the immediate context, verses 10-18. Those in Philippi had been giving and giving and giving to Paul. What would be God’s obvious response to such givers? He would meet all their needs.
Application: I give out of my resources; God gives out of His resources! I give in this life; God gives in this life time—and also in eternity!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, you are a giver and when your Holy Spirit has control of my life, He makes me a giver also. I am thinking that it is only as a giver that I can fully appreciate what I have been given. Amen
