April 11, 2016: SOAP #2321:
Scripture: 1Samuel (NIV) 12:22 For the sake of his great name the LORD will not reject his people, because the LORD was pleased to make you his own. 23 As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by failing to pray for you. And I will teach you the way that is good and right. 24 But be sure to fear the LORD and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you. 25 Yet if you persist in doing evil, both you and your king will be swept away.”
Observation: Samuel had anointed Saul as King of Israel and was now moving into “retirement.” In these verses he gives them a three-point message. 1. God chose them and He will not reject them. 2. Samuel will continue to pray for them and teach them. And 3. Their choice would determine their destiny.
Application: I know I can count on God! I know I can count on others to pray for me. I know that my choices will affect my future.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, like Samuel, help me to be faithful to pray for others and to speak truth into their lives. Amen
