May 25, 2016: SOAP #2365: 1Kings 10, 11; 2Chronicles 9; Romans 6
Scripture: Romans (NIV) 6:11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. 13 Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. … also verses 16 and 19
Observation: Paul had not yet visited the church in Rome, so his letter covers more detail about the Christian life than is included in the letters to the churches he had planted or visited. In this section, Paul emphasizes the importance of our choice. Sin had dominated our lives and Satan’s desire was to keep us as his robots, his trophies of how he could manipulate God’s creation to go contrary to God’s laws. The death of Jesus on the cross paid for our sins and set us free from Satan’s dominion.
Application: Now I am free and able to choose how to live. God’s dominance/Lordship in my life comes as I choose to “offer” myself and the “parts” of my body to Him as instruments of righteousness.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, today I offer myself to you. I submit to your authority. The more I get to know you, the more obvious it is that You alone are worthy to be Lord in my life. Amen
