Who remembered?

November 27, 2016: SOAP #2551:  Psalm 125; Matthew 26-27

Scripture:  Matthew (NIV) 27:62 The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate.  63 “Sir,” they said, “we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’  64 So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first.” 65 “Take a guard,” Pilate answered. “Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how.”

Observation:   Who remembered what Jesus had said?  It was the Chief priests and the Pharisees!   They even acted in accordance with what they remembered.  If the disciples had remembered His words, they would have been camped out at the tomb.  They would have wanted to be present when Jesus appeared from the grave.  (John 20:9)

Application:   Let it never be said that the people of the world know the scriptures better than I know them.

Prayer:    Holy Spirit, I confess that I need your help to remember what I read in the scriptures.  And give me the courage to act accordingly.  Amen
