January 12: Genesis 29-30; Luke 12
Value
Scripture: Luke (NIV) 12:6 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God.
7 Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
Observation #1: Even the birds of little significance to me are not overlooked by their Creator. He created them and they have value.
Application #1: I need to be careful to treat God’s creation with respect. I should value creation as He values it. I should value creation because it is His work.
Observation #2: God is interested in the smallest insignificant details about man—even the number of hair on his head! Man has more value to God than other creation. For man He was willing to send His Son to die for our sins!!!
Application #2: How can I feel worthless or insignificant when I know that I am valuable to my Creator.
Prayer: Lord, as the song-writer put it: “I sing because I’m happy; I sing because I’m free. His eye is on the sparrow; and I know He watches me.” Civilla Martin Amen.
