January 27: Exodus 17-20; Acts 3
Eager
Scripture: Exodus (NIV) 19:3 Then Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain and said, “This is what you are to say to the house of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel:
4 ‘You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself.
5 Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine,
6 you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.”
Observation: God rescued Israel from bondage in Egypt by many miraculous interventions. God did not bring them out of Egypt so they could run off on their own and do whatever they desired. Verse 4 says, “…and brought you to myself.” God had special plans for them.
Application: God does not set me free so that I can do my own thing. He has a plan for me. When He saved me from sin, He saved me to live for Him and do His will.
Prayer: Lord, you rescued me from the destruction of sin and now I am free to serve you. As I begin my 65th year, may my appreciation be easily seen in how eager I am to do your will. Amen.
