June 18, 2016: SOAP #2389: 1Kings 22; 2Chronicles 18,19; Colossians 4
Scripture: Colossians (NIV) 4:7 Tychicus will tell you all the news about me. He is a dear brother, a faithful minister and fellow-servant in the Lord. 8 I am sending him to you for the express purpose that you may know about our circumstances and that he may encourage your hearts. 9 He is coming with Onesimus, our faithful and dear brother, who is one of you. They will tell you everything that is happening here.
Observation: As Paul closes his letter, he introduces two brothers who would accompany the letter. Their purpose would be to bring them up-to-date on Paul’s ministry and circumstances. They would be able to answer questions. As visitors in the congregation, they would be an encouragement.
Application: What an excellent goal when visiting churches—to be an encouragement. I should take that as my assignment. The Lord is sending me to be an encouragement to the church or to someone I meet.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, may this be my assignment every time I gather with other believers. Open my eyes to see things I can appreciate, especially to take notice of the things You appreciate! Amen
