It’s God’s!!!

June 21, 2016: SOAP #2392: 2Kings 6,7; 2Chronicles 20; 1Timothy 3

Scripture: 2Chronicles (NIV) 20:12 O our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you.” 15 He [the Spirit speaking through Jehaziel] said: “Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the LORD says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. 17 You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the LORD will be with you.’”

Observation: King Jehoshaphat and the people were so convinced that God had spoken that they did a very logical thing. They put the choir in the front of the army to lead them into battle!  When they arrived, they found that the armies coming to invade Judah had turned on each other and nothing was left for the Judah’s army to do was to pick up the spoils, which it took three days to do!!!

Application: How appropriate this passage is to me. Tomorrow morning, I have to take a driving test with the new school bus company that is taking over the transportation for our school district.

Prayer:   Heavenly Father, I know you will be with me in the morning and the “battle” is yours. I can go with your praise in my heart and in my mouth! Thank you for your peace! Amen

Sufficient and Abundant

June 20, 2016: SOAP #2391: 2Kings 4,5; Psalm 83; 1Timothy 2

Scripture: 2Kings 4:3 Elisha said, “Go round and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. 4 Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.” 5 She left him and afterwards shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring. 6 When all the jars were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another one.” But he replied, “There is not a jar left.” Then the oil stopped flowing. 7 She went and told the man of God, and he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left.”

Observation: The house was full of empty jars, after all the prophet had told her not to ask for just a few. The sons brought her the jars and she poured in the oil. She poured and she poured, until every jar was full. After every jar was filled, “then the oil stopped flowing.” There was sufficient to pay the debt, and there was abundant to live on what remained after the debt was paid!   The oil flowed as long as she had an empty jar.

Application: Two things I can say about God’s supply. It is sufficient, and it is abundant. I need to take all my empty jars to the One who pours out the oil of His Holy Spirit.

Prayer:   Holy Spirit, teach me to rest in your sufficient and abundant provision. Amen
